Rendering Engineer

👥 Graphics & Visualization 📍 Remote (Worldwide) 💼 Full-time 🏆 Mid-Senior (3-7 years) 💰 $140,000 โ€“ $185,000 USD
Graphics Programming WebGL GPU 3D Rendering C++ Shaders

About the Role

We're looking for a Rendering Engineer to build high-performance visualization and rendering systems at Lit8. You'll work on the graphics layer that turns complex data into fast, interactive visual experiences โ€” whether that's 2D data visualization, 3D scene rendering, or custom visual effects.

This is a deeply technical role for someone who loves working close to the GPU and cares about every millisecond of frame time.

What You'll Do

  • Design and implement real-time rendering pipelines for web and native platforms
  • Write and optimize GPU shaders (GLSL, WGSL) for custom visual effects
  • Build performant data visualization systems that handle large datasets smoothly
  • Profile and optimize rendering performance (draw calls, memory, GPU utilization)
  • Develop and maintain internal graphics libraries and rendering abstractions
  • Explore and prototype new rendering techniques (PBR, ray tracing, compute shaders)
  • Collaborate with product and design teams to deliver compelling visual experiences
  • Contribute to WebGPU adoption and next-generation web graphics capabilities

What We're Looking For

  • 3-7 years of experience in graphics programming or rendering engineering
  • Strong proficiency in C++, Rust, or low-level TypeScript with WASM
  • Deep understanding of the graphics pipeline (vertex processing, rasterization, fragment shading)
  • Experience writing and optimizing GPU shaders
  • Hands-on experience with WebGL, OpenGL, Vulkan, or Metal
  • Solid understanding of linear algebra, 3D math, and computational geometry
  • Performance-oriented mindset with profiling and optimization experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience with WebGPU or compute shaders for general-purpose GPU computing
  • Background in game engine development (Unreal, Unity, custom engines)
  • Familiarity with Three.js, Babylon.js, or similar web 3D frameworks
  • Experience with physics simulation or particle systems
  • Published work or talks on rendering techniques
  • Contributions to graphics-related open-source projects
