System Engineer
About the Role
We're looking for a System Engineer to work on the low-level infrastructure and systems that underpin Lit8's platform. You'll tackle performance bottlenecks, harden our security posture, and design reliable systems that scale โ working at the layer between our application code and the hardware it runs on.
This is a role for someone who enjoys understanding how things work at a fundamental level and takes pride in building systems that are fast, secure, and resilient.
What You'll Do
- Design and optimize core system infrastructure for performance and reliability
- Investigate and resolve complex performance issues across the stack
- Improve system security through hardening, auditing, and best practices
- Build and maintain monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning systems
- Design networking architectures, load balancing strategies, and failover mechanisms
- Automate system provisioning, configuration, and maintenance
- Collaborate with application engineers to optimize resource usage and system behavior
- Document system architectures, runbooks, and operational procedures
What We're Looking For
- 4-8 years of experience in systems engineering, SRE, or low-level infrastructure work
- Deep understanding of Linux internals (kernel, networking, filesystems, processes)
- Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, load balancing)
- Experience with performance analysis and profiling tools
- Proficiency in at least two of: C, C++, Go, Python, Rust
- Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts (consensus, replication, partitioning)
- Comfort with debugging complex issues across multiple system layers
Nice to Have
- Experience with kernel tuning or custom kernel module development
- Background in storage systems or database internals
- Familiarity with eBPF or system tracing tools (perf, bpftrace, strace)
- Security certifications or experience with compliance frameworks
- Contributions to infrastructure open-source projects
